Builders and homeowners who ask us about mini concrete pump hire usually have the same problem. The concrete has to go somewhere a lorry can't reach: behind the house, down a steep garden, through a gate in an old town street. Our answer is a compact Putzmeister static pump on a lorry, with its own operator. It is small enough to fit where a big boom pump can't, and it still pushes concrete up to 400 metres along the line.
What a mini concrete pump is, and why you would hire one
A mini concrete pump is a compact static pump, in our case mounted on a lorry, that parks as close as it can and feeds concrete through a flexible line to the pour.
Compared with a big boom pump, it needs far less space to set up and no room to swing an arm. That makes it the right tool for villa plots, gardens, courtyards and basements. Builders in the UK often call this type a line pump. Whatever the name, the idea is the same: the mixer delivers to the pump, the pump delivers to you.
Narrow access on the Costa Blanca
Narrow access is normal here, from single-track urbanisation lanes to old town streets and gated plots.
Many villas along the coast were built on hillsides, with steep, winding roads, tight hairpins and a gateway barely wider than a car. Pools and patios are often at the back or on a lower terrace. In the old towns of places like Altea, Jávea or Villajoyosa the streets were simply never made for a concrete lorry. In all these cases the pump goes as close as it can get, and the line runs through the gate, along the side path, down the steps or over the wall.
- Pools and patios behind the house
- Gardens on lower terraces of a sloping plot
- Roof terraces and upper floors, up to 50 metres high
- Courtyards and town houses with no vehicle access
- Basements and footings next to existing buildings
Why not just use barrows?
A pump places the concrete in one continuous pour, which is faster and gives a better result than barrowing.
Barrowing a few cubic metres up and down a steep garden takes a team of people and a lot of hours. Concrete starts to set while you are still on the first half, and the joins between loads can show or weaken. With a pump the concrete arrives fresh and evenly, so your builder can level and finish the whole slab in one go. The pump handles up to 35 m³ an hour, so a small job is often done in under an hour of pumping.
Always with an operator
We only hire our truck-mounted pump with our own operator, never on its own.
The operator sets up the pump, primes the line with a cement slurry, controls the flow and moves the line with your builder during the pour. At the end he cleans out the pump and lines and makes sure nothing is left on your drive or in the street. Customers often comment on that last part.

Check your access in two minutes
Send us a photo of the street, the gate and the spot where the concrete goes, and we will tell you where the pump can stand.
A few pictures usually tell us enough. We then give you a fixed price that includes the pump, the operator and the line length you need, with the concrete arranged by us at the plant. See how we put that together on our concrete pump prices page, or see our standard concrete pump hire with operator if access is easy. Typical narrow-access jobs include concrete for a pool shell and a driveway or patio slab. WhatsApp: +34 633 361 962.
Mini concrete pump: common questions
How narrow can the access be?
The pump itself needs a spot next to the road where the mixer can reach it. From there the line can go through a normal gateway, along a side path or down steps. Send us a photo and we will tell you if it works.
Can the line go uphill and downhill?
Yes. We pump up to 50 metres high and up to 400 metres horizontally. Going down a sloping garden is no problem either.
Will the pump damage my driveway or garden?
The pump stands on the road or a firm surface and the line is laid by hand. We protect where needed and clean up before we leave.
Is a mini pump suitable for a very small job?
Yes. We pump small bases and garden slabs as well as larger floors. For a small job the time saved over barrowing is often the biggest gain.
Can I hire the pump without your operator?
No. The pump is only available with our own operator.
