Freshly poured liquid screed in a house in Finestrat

We pump liquid screed on the Costa Blanca for builders, developers and renovation firms, on new builds, extensions and refurbishments. Liquid screed, called mortero autonivelante in Spain, flows out across the floor and finds its own level. It goes down quickly, it needs no heavy compacting and it gives you a flat base for tiles, wood or vinyl. We bring the pump and operator, arrange the material and pump it to the room, even on an upper floor.

What liquid screed is

Liquid screed is a self-levelling mortar that is pumped onto the floor and spreads to an even, flat layer.

A traditional sand and cement screed is laid by hand, bay by bay, and tamped flat. A liquid screed is far more fluid. It is pumped in through a line, spread with a dappling bar and settles under its own weight. That gives a flatter result in much less time, which is why many builders on the coast now prefer it for new floors.

Thickness and drying

We lay liquid screed from a minimum of 2.5 cm, and you can walk on it after one day.

Being able to lay a thinner layer is useful in renovations, where every centimetre of floor height counts against door thresholds and steps. Walkable after a day means other trades can get back in quickly. Before floor coverings go down the screed has to dry out properly. How long that takes depends on the thickness and the conditions, so check with your floor layer.

Liquid screed over underfloor heating

Liquid screed flows round underfloor heating pipes and wraps them completely, without air pockets.

Underfloor heating is popular in Costa Blanca villas, especially for the cooler winter months. Because liquid screed fills every gap around the pipes, heat passes into the floor evenly. Your installer fixes the pipes and the edge strip first, then we pump the screed over them in one pour.

How a screed pour goes

We set up outside, run the line into the building and pump the screed room by room.

  1. Your builder prepares the floor: insulation, membrane, edge strip and any heating pipes.
  2. We set datum points and check levels, with laser levelling where needed.
  3. The pump stands outside, the line goes in through a door or window.
  4. The screed is pumped in and spread, then dappled to release air.
  5. We clean the pump and lines and leave the outside of your house tidy.

Because we pump up to 50 metres high and up to 400 metres along the line, upper floors and houses at the end of a long garden path are fine. For tight access see our mini concrete pump for narrow access.

A real job: 7 m³ of liquid screed in Finestrat

We pumped 7 m³ of liquid screed for a floor in Finestrat.

It shows the kind of screed job we do most: a residential floor of a few cubic metres, where a compact pump and one operator get the material in place quickly. You can see more on our concrete projects page.

Price for liquid screed

The price depends on the area, the thickness, the access and how far the line has to run.

To estimate volume, multiply the floor area in square metres by the thickness in metres. A 60 m² floor at 5 cm comes to 3 m³. Send us the floor area, the thickness and a photo of the access, and we give you a fixed price. Our prices page explains every factor. If your job also includes a slab or foundation, see our concrete pump hire. Screeding several homes or floors on a development? We quote the whole run in one go: see concrete pumping for builders.

Liquid screed: common questions

How thin can liquid screed be?

We lay liquid screed from a minimum thickness of 2.5 cm.

When can I walk on liquid screed?

After one day. Full drying before floor coverings takes longer and depends on thickness and conditions.

Is liquid screed suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes. It flows completely round the pipes without air pockets, so the heat spreads evenly through the floor.

Can you pump screed to an upper floor?

Yes. We pump up to 50 metres high, so first and second floors are no problem.

Is liquid screed the same as self-levelling compound?

They work in a similar way, but a self-levelling compound from a bag is usually a thin top layer. Liquid screed is the floor build-up itself, from 2.5 cm upwards, delivered and pumped in bulk.
